Noblessner quarter is the first residential district with human friendly planning that has access to the bay of Tallinn. Here one can find factories of submarines, city square and a new residential district of outstanding architecture. It is the only harbour in the city centre area, where one can admire the sunset, standing on the berth. The quarter and the port itself are in fast development as also one of the most successful sailing schools promotes its activity there. It is the nearest port to an active citylife and carefully planned human friendly open-air space.
Noblessner area’s history reaches back to 1912, when two St. Petersburg businessmen – Emanuel Nobel (nephew of the world famous Alfred Nobel) and Arthur Lessner – founded here one of the most important submarine factory of the Zarist Russia. Noblessner got its name from the surnames of the two men. From 1913–1917 12 modern submarines were constructed here. When Estonia gained its independence, the submarine construction ended, but the construction of surface ships and ship repairing continued here until August 2018. Lately Noblessner has become a harbour campus open to the public and to the sea. Here one can find historic factory buildings, a sea boulevard, a yacht harbour and new developing residential and business areas.
